5 / 5 stars

Relatively new to the world of slow cookers is the Calphalon Slow Cooker.   The first positive thing I can say about this unit is that’s it’s a Calphalon, and if you know your kitchen cookware you know that’s a name you can trust.

While many slow cookers only give you a high and low heat setting to work with, the Calphalon Slow Cooker also gives you an automatic setting.  This means that you can start cooking on high, and in two hours the unit will automatically shift to the lower heat setting.  If you do a lot of slow cooking this is a great feature.  With most crock pots or slow cookers, even those that are fully programmable, you’ll need to program that manually.  And when you timer winds down to the end, the Calphalon will automatically switch over to the warm setting so that if you’re not there in the kitchen when your meal is done, you’re slow cooker will keep it warm for you.  This is a great feature for times when you are cooking your meal while out for the day, perhaps at work.  If you get stuck in traffic or held up for some other reason, dinner will still be hot when you get home.

Calphalon Slow Cooker Pros & Cons

Pros:   Opti-Heat systems ensures even cooking throughout – Large 7 qt capacity – 24 hour timer – High, low & auto settings – Switches to warm when it’s finished cooking

Cons:  None really, but it is a bit pricy

The timer on the Calphalon Slow Cooker is 24 hours so you aren’t limited like you are with some other slow cookers.  If your preference is to cook something on low heat over many hours, you can set the timer to do that without restrictions.

The Calphalon slow cooker also comes with an internal sensor which works to ensure accurate temperatures in your slow cooker.  Calphalon’s exclusive Opti-Heat System makes sure that your food is cooked evenly and thoroughly with results you can count on – every time.  If you’ve ever owned a slow cooker that heats up hotter on one side than on the other you’ll know what I’m talking about.  I had one that did this and you practically needed to babysit your slow cooker so you could keep stirring things so everything ended up cooked evenly.  Trust me; go with a brand, like Calphalon that takes care of proper heat distribution for you.

If you’re looking for a quality slow cooker, be assured this will meet that need.  And at 7 quarts it will be large enough for a family or for someone who likes to cook larger quantities and freeze portions.  My personal review of the Calphalon Slow Cooker is 5/5.
