Toro/Lawn Boy 10634 Electric Start Mower

4.5 / 5 stars

Please note this is a discontinued model.  It has been replaced with the Lawn-Boy 10730 Series.

Mowing season is upon us.  If it’s time for a new mower, take a look at this new Lawn Boy model 10634.  It’s a self-propelled gas mower with electric start, but that’s just one of its great features.

This mower is outfitted with rear wheel drive, which is typically better for a lawn that tends to be bumpy, hilly or uneven, and if you have thick grass.  Which of course doesn’t mean if you don’t have any of those things you should get this lawnmower.

With its powerful Briggs & Stratton engine, cutting blades measuring 20 inches, your choice of cutting options which include bag, mulch or side discharge, and a choice of cutting heights from between 1 to 4 inches, this mower has something that will appeal to everybody.  One thing to note about the side discharge — the attachment is not included.  If you want it you need to order it.

Lawn Boy Self-Propelled 10634 Gas Mower Pros & Cons

Pros: Lightweight — Electric Starter — Self-Propelled — Powerful Motor — Patented Mulching System — Easy to Assemble — Bag or Mulch — Variable Speed

Cons: Some Apparent Quality Issues — Some users feel that it self-propels too fast

Something about that powerful engine.  If you like to model at a leisurely pace, sedately strolling around your lawn, perhaps this isn’t the model for you.  It does tend to move a bit quickly, and other reviewers have complained that they feel as if they’re fighting against the machine.  Of course, these could be people who had never used anything but a reel mower in the past.  Just be aware, there may be an adjustment period in getting used to your new lawnmower, especially if you’ve never used a self-propelled mower.

Another great feature about the Lawn Boy 10634, is how it mulches.  Lawn Boy uses a patented method to cut, or mince, grass clippings into mulch.

All in all, this is a fabulous new gas mower.  And for those of you who have been stuck on Toro lawn mowers, you should know that Toro acquired Lawn Boy years ago.  One word of caution.  It seems there may be some quality control issues as some people have had to go seeking warranty work right off the bat.  Hopefully, however, those issues will be few and far between.  And it is covered by a two-year full warranty and three-year warranty on the starter.
