Big Boss 9358 Multi-Speed Power Juicer

4 / 5 stars

You need to take a look at this Big Boss 9358 Juicer – assuming an affordable juice that can get the job done is more important to you than the brand name that’s attached to it. If you’re a big brand snob, move right along.

This Big Boss juicer is a masticating juicer, so it’s already ahead in the juicer race.  If you haven’t read my juicer info page, masticating juicers are typically better than centrifugal and therefore a better choice.

The 800 watt 9358 is a step – a giant step! – up from the 700 watt model that has been on the market for the last 3 years or so.  For the most part, it is remarkable similar to the Breville JE98XL Juice Fountain Plus.  The major differences are that the Breville has an 850 watt motor and the 9358 is 800.  But to the regular Joe, that means absolutely nothing as you’re not going to notice a significant difference in performance.

Big Boss Multi-Speed 9358 Pros & Cons

Pros:  Fairly inexpensive – Quiet – Powerful – 3 Year warranty

Cons:  No dishwasher safe parts – Doesn’t handle leafy vegetables well

The Big Boss has a “big mouth” feature like the Hamilton Beach unit, measuring at 3 inches.  So any fruit that you juice whole – skin included – that’s smaller than your typical apple, can be fed through without the need of cutting it up first, which is a nice feature.  But a little caveat here.  Just because the opening is large enough for any fruit under three inches, doesn’t mean that any fruit that size should be added whole.  In some cases you might want to cut them up, regardless.  Hard vegetables will still need to be precut.

Another difference is that the Breville has dishwasher safe parts but the Big Boss doesn’t.  So you need to factor in washing time after you juicing.  Whatever you do, don’t leave the parts unwashed for the day.  At the very least, rinse them out or you’ll have something resembling cement to deal with later!

This powerful little juicer has a two speed motor, so when you need to extra power for harder fruits or vegetables, just use the higher speed.  For the most part, the first stage seems to have more than enough power.  And the stainless steel blade sharply cuts through nearly anything.  I say nearly because while this is a masticating juicer, it doesn’t handle green leafy vegetables like kale all that well.  Unfortunately, you need to spend the big bucks for that, and look at something like the Kuvings NS-850

All in all this is a great juicer.  It leaves behind a fairly dry pulp, meaning that you get nearly all of the juice available in your fruit or vegetables. It retails for the same price as the above mentioned Breville model, so in the long run it might just come down to sale prices and availability.  Or the fact that this has a 3 year warranty and the Breville only has 1.
