The most notable feature about this indoor grill is the wattage.  At 1800 watts it’s more powerful than a lot of other electric countertop grills.  More power means more heat.  This grill tops out at just over 480°F which is significantly hotter than what other grills can achieve.

Next, if you’ve ever cooked on any sort of appliance that fails to distribute heat evenly throughout, you know how bad that can be.  Some of your food is getting over cooked or worse, burnt, while the rest is undercooked and you end up having to constantly cycle your food around the cooking surface.  You won’t have that issue to deal with with the Emeril Gourmet Griller!  It’s been manufactured with a professional style heating element.  That means heat is appropriately diffused across the entire cooking surface and you won’t get any hot/cold spots.

Emeril by T-Fal Gourmet Griller Pros & Cons

Pros:  1800 watts – Even heat distribution – Non stick surface is dishwasher safe – Max temp about 480°F

Cons: Some may feel that the lack of a lid is a con, but it really isn’t.  See below.

The cooking surface of the Emeril Gourmet Grill is a non-stick, die-cast aluminum that is dishwasher safe.  It’s 11 x 16 inches meaning you get 170 square inches of cooking space – more than enough room to cook for the family.

I’ve mentioned on the indoor electric grill reviews index page that some people let the availability of a lid be a deal breaker when buying an indoor grill.  And while I completely understand that, here is my experience with grills that come with and without lids.  Lids are fine when you’re only cooking thin cuts of meat or anything else.  Once you start cooking anything thicker, you can’t use the lid anyway.  The Emeril by T-Fal Gourmet Grill does not have a lid, and that’s okay.  I’ve found if you can turn the heat down a bit, that reduces spatter.  This also helps a bit with smoke issues.  Note that I also talk about smokeless grills on the main review page of this section.  So remember, if you crank up the heat to far, you crank up the spatter and smoke as well.  For the most part it is just not necessary to have the heat as far up as it can go.  The medium temperature on your outdoor gas or propane grill is likely around 350°F.   I have never had cause to put my gas grill higher than medium heat and I use it all the time.

The drip tray on the Emeril Gourmet Grill is integrated which is nice.  You don’t have to worry about getting drippings everywhere when you move the cooking surface to the sink or dishwasher.  You just move the whole unit.
