Omega Dehydrator DH9090TW 9 Tray w/Timer

Omega Dehydrator DH9090TW 9 Tray

4.5 / 5 stars

If you’re like me, you’re a little surprised to hear about Omega dehydrators. Omega is known as the manufacturer of some of the best juicers on the market, but released 2 new food dehydrators in early 2012. And as with their juicer, you are looking at a quality product.

As usual, I’m going to compare the Omega Dehydrator against the Excalibur 3900. Not because the 3900 is my favorite – the STX Dehydra holds that distinction – but because it’s the model that seems to be the most popular. The one that people tend to rave about.

The most outstanding difference, and it’s an important one, is that the Omega Dehydrator has a timer. Something that is significantly lacking on the 3900.

9 Tray Omega Dehydrator Pros & Cons

Pros: Side mount fan – Timer – Excellent warranty – Large size – No tray rotation necessary

Cons: No drip tray – Only 600 watts

As we point out on our dehydrator reviews index page, fan placement is an issue with food dryers. The Omega dehydrator has a 7 inch fan placed at the rear of the unit. The fan provides even airflow and heat distribution throughout, meaning you don’t have to rotate the trays. We’re also provided with an adjustable temperature control, with heat topping out at 160°F, a little better than the Excalibur.

Oh, more thing. As I stated at the beginning, Omega is known for manufacturing some of the best juicers today. I guess they are willing to stand behind their workmanship, because the Omega dehydrator comes with a standard 5 year warranty, compared to the 1 year standard offered by you know who.

The Omega dehydrator has 600 watts of power, and has tray space of 15 Sq feet, both equivalent to the Excalibur dehydrator. The overall dimensions are also virtually the same.

Please note that Omega also has a 5 tray dehydrator, but it only 440 watt.

This is a nice looking, well designed food dehydrator and retails for slightly more than the STX Dehydra.   In the end, it’s all subjective, but as I’ve stated the STX Dehydra is the best food dehydrator in my opinion. It’s my favorite and has the best range of features. So do yourself a favor on these two models and check current pricing on both.
