LEM 10 Tray Food Dehydrator w/Digital Timer

LEM Products 10 Tray Food Dehydrator 1010

4 / 5 stars

We’re now taking a look at the LEM Dehydrator. The 10 tray model to be specific. There is also a 5 tray LEM dehydrator, but I should point out that are not the same unit with just a differing amount of trays. If you are looking at the 5 tray model, please note that among other things, it is less powerful. FYI – The 10 tray is model number 1010 and the 5 tray is 1009.

Anyway, moving on with our dehydrator reviews! The 10 tray LEM food dehydrator may look something similar to the Excalibur 3900, but there are some significant differences. (Not that the 3900 is the standard that all others are measured by! In my opinion, that would be the STX Dehydra.)

LEM Dehydrator Model 1010 10 Tray Pros & Cons

Pros: 800 watts – Timer – Side mount fan – Large Size – Reasonable price

Cons: Tray rotation necessary – No drip tray

The 10 LEM dehydrator has 800 watts of drying power, which is 200 more than the Excalibur and 400 watts less than the STX Dehydra. And just in case you missed reading the into page to our food dehydrator reviews, the more watts the faster the drying process. However, the LEM Dehydrator does have a significant drawback. While it does have a side mounted fan, which is good, the trays still need to be rotated, which you could find to be a pain. Of course, for the $100 difference in price between the two, that might be something you are willing to live with. Again on the plus side, the LEM has a timer, the Excalibur doesn’t. Of course, the STX Dehydra does! The LEM is also lacking a drip tray of any kind.

If you are looking for a good food dehydrator that’s reasonably priced, don’t be put off by the differences mentioned above. Frankly, the extra power and the timer are enough to make it some serious completion for the Excalibur. And you would be far better off than buying of the cheaper round models – if you can afford it of course.

Size wise, the LEM Dehydrator has a drying space of about 15 Sq Feet spread across the ten trays.

And not to scare you off, but I feel it’s only fair to mention that LEM did have a recall on some of their dehydrators manufactured in 2010. There was a problem with a lose screw in the motor housing, which in some cases caused the motor to fall off onto the heating element. Yeah, can you say fire hazard!? Anyway, like I said, I just felt that I should offer full disclosure, since it did turn up in my research. The issue was corrected, so it’s not a current concern.

All in all, if you are looking for a mid range priced model, I would say this ranks up there as one of the best food dehydrators in its class. As mentioned above it has some great features, some of which are not on more expensive models. My personal rating on the LEM Dehydrator Model 1010 is 4/5.
