Nespresso D60 Pixie Espresso Maker

Nespresso D60 Pixie Espresso Maker

4.5 / 5 stars

As the word Pixie suggests, the Nespresso D60 Pixie Espresso Maker is a small size espresso maker great for those that have limited counter space.

Before we go any further, let’s address the differences between the Nespresso Pixie C60 and the D60. As far as technology and features go there are no differences between the two. The only things that differ between the two are some simple design and style changes and they can be seen at a glance. So choose the one that you like the best as far as aesthetics go.

In terms of the feature set, the Pixie doesn’t differ greatly from the D111 Citiz.  It heats up and is ready to brew in under half a minute and you have the options for the smaller espresso size cup or the larger lungo size cup.  Its pump driven, with a single, stainless steel Thermoblock boiler.  It also has a capsule container that will hold approximately 10 pods.  However, the water tank is smaller.  As opposed to the 34 ounces that Citiz will hold the D60 only holds 24 ounces of water.  Frankly, if space isn’t an issue, I’d go with the Citiz.

Nespresso Pixie Espresso Maker Pros & Cons

Pros:  Inexpensive — Compact Size — Available In a Variety of Colors – Fully Automatic — Produces Excellent Coffee

Cons:  Some apparent design flaws or quality control issues — Very basic unit

The Pixie is not an awesome espresso maker with all the bells and whistles, but for the price I am not expecting that’s what you think you’re getting.  What you’ll get is a simple, fully automatic espresso maker that produces a wonderful tasting cup of coffee.  Obviously, there’s no frothier but you can buy one separately and use that.

Now there are some issues with the Pixie.  Either a design flaw or some quality control issues, I don’t know.  But there are several reports of lemons, where the unit leaks.  My advice if you are buying this model is to put it through its paces immediately.  If you find any issues return it to Amazon for replacement.  Another issue is a slightly awkward water tank.  My solution would be to simply leave the water tank attached and filled it with a jug or something.  Another reviewer has pointed out that the answer is simply opening the lid of the water tank before removal, so you can try that as well.

I’m rating this Nespresso D60-US-AL-NE model is a 4.5/5.  The half-point loss is due to the leaky units that have been reported.  For this price point, you getting an excellent cup of coffee, just don’t assume that you’re going to get the equivalent of what you would get from the professional barista that you visit.
